Μπενάκη Α.400

The Hellenic Institute of Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Studies in Venice bids farewell, with deep respect, to Anna Psarouda-Benaki, a discreet and distinguished presence in the public and intellectual life of Greece.

Her career was closely intertwined with legal scholarship, parliamentary life, and service to public institutions, which she fulfilled with moderation, consistency, and a profound sense of responsibility. Throughout her work, she underscored the importance of sobriety and of respecting the duties inherent in every office. Her contribution to public life was steady and sustained, marked by a commitment to the proper functioning of the constitutional order and to the cultivation of constructive dialogue.

She served as President of the Hellenic Parliament from 2004 to 2007, and as Vice-President and subsequently President of the Academy of Athens in 2019 and 2020 respectively. As Chair of the Supervisory Committee of the Hellenic Institute in Venice for a number of years, she contributed to advancing its scholarly mission and to the preservation of the historical ties between Hellenism and Venice. Her presence, invariably discreet, was characterised by methodical diligence and a spirit of cooperation. With steadiness and dedication, she discharged the responsibilities entrusted to her by the Academy of Athens and the Hellenic Republic.

Her passing marks the conclusion of a long and meaningful public life.
Her work and service now form part of the historical legacy of the Hellenic State and of the Hellenic Institute in Venice.
