On January 16, 2023, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikolaos Dendias has done an official visit to the Hellenic Institute and the area surrounding the Campo dei Greci. The visit took place on the occasion of the cutting of the Institute’s traditional vasilopita. Also present at the ceremony was the Ambassador of Greece in Rome, Eleni Sourani. In a meeting that preceded the cutting of vasilopita, the President of the Institute, Vasileios Koukousas, briefed the Minister of Foreign Affairs in detail on all matters concerning the administration and scientific activity of the Institute. The President of the Institute characterized 2022 as the year of recognition of the Institute in the global scientific community, referring to the various collaborations that took place with scientific research centers abroad, as well as the actions of the Institute with a particular interest in the promotion of Greek culture during the Byzantine and post-Byzantine periods. There was also an update on matters concerning the Hellenic Institute’s real estate in Italy, as well as the important issue of the functioning of the Institute’s library, which is under the responsibility of the Ministry of Education. After the cutting of the vasilopita, which was attended by honorable guests, staff and fellows of the Hellenic Institute, the Minister visited the Church of San Giorgio dei Greci, the Museum of Icons, unique for the variety of Byzantine and post-Byzantine artifacts in Venice and the prominent Sala del Capitolo.
